My First Impressions

With professional experience fast approaching I think it’s time I reflect on my experience so far. I spoke to my mentor teacher when I first called the school as she had an intercom in her room – my first impression was ‘Wow this school must integrate many ICT’s.’

When I organised a time to meet I was very nervous and had plenty of questions. I met the office ladies which were so supportive and made me feel at ease. We then walked into a Year 2 class doing ‘Meditation’ after lunch. After spending an hour with the class I am feeling confident that I can get to know these children and help them to learn. A conversation with one of the children led me to think that the class is laid back and they are allowed to enjoy their learning. Great!

With the conversation I had with my mentor teacher after class we are both on the same page with expectations. I will be allowed to find my feet in the first few days and do mostly small group facilitating. With the timetable that my teacher has there is plenty of chances that I will have to teach a lesson, although they will mostly be English and Math classes. There is speciality teachers for Science, HPE and music but it will be very beneficial for me to see these classes. Religious Education will be taken by my teacher and Assembly takes a few hours out of every week as well. I can see this next month flying by so fast! Don’t know whether I am ready or not. But as Sophie says in her Blog it’s coming whether we are ready or not!
